Anna Cei:

Hi, welcome to "What Matters Most to You?". In each Hi, good morning, Fredric or.. good evening.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, no. Good morning for me.

Anna Cei:

So do I pronounce your name correctly? How do you

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I guess it's Fredric in Swedish, but

Anna Cei:

Can you say that slowly? For people who don't

Fredric Mourath:

*laugh* Yeah. *Freeh-drick*

Anna Cei:

*Freeh-drick* and do go by Frederick?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. That works fine. The way to

Anna Cei:

that is very true. So before we dive in and talk about

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

So where are you? Exactly? Now you're in Sweden.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, so right now I'm home at my parents house

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm.

Unknown:

So I'm in, that's in smo, which is like, an hour

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm. What's the weather like? Is it warm? Is it

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I mean, actually, it's been cold as

Anna Cei:

It's coming. It's coming. It's coming. By the time

Unknown:

With our luck. It's gonna be warm now. And then it's

Anna Cei:

*laughter* You are about 22 years old. Am I correct?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, that's right. I turn 23 this year, but

Anna Cei:

late in the year?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly.

Anna Cei:

Okay. And you told me a little bit beforehand, you are

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, that's right.

Anna Cei:

Is that something you do full time? or part time? Or

Fredric Mourath:

Um, it kind of depends. I mean, I've obviously

Anna Cei:

be something, become somebody. *laughter*

Fredric Mourath:

*laughter* Exactly. No, but you know,

Anna Cei:

After high school?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly.

Anna Cei:

You have to send me some music here, and I think

Fredric Mourath:

Sure.

Anna Cei:

I have a song here called "Back to You". Is that

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

In the description you can find all Spotify links or

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. Where do you want to begin?

Anna Cei:

Well, first of all, I mean, besides making music, what

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it's, it's it's usually been in the

Anna Cei:

That's quite different from what we just heard.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, but like, I think if you, maybe but if you way you tend to write metal, even if the genre in the end is

Anna Cei:

Isn't it also that metal though, has a lot of roots

Fredric Mourath:

yeah, I've heard I've heard that too, but I

Anna Cei:

Especially that may be melodic metal.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. So I guess the type of metal that I

Anna Cei:

*laughing* You listen to cheesy metal? That's a new

Fredric Mourath:

No, I do! I think. But yeah, it's just this kind of taking really, for all the, for all the memes and for all the jokes, you know,

Anna Cei:

and what inspires you because you write both lyrics

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

So what, what makes you want to start write music?

Fredric Mourath:

It's always been, you know, kind of therapy, of the time, it's harder to write or sing about something down at a big breakfast table with a lot of options. And you

Anna Cei:

Breakfast table is what comes to mind

Fredric Mourath:

Exactly.

Anna Cei:

Many non-Swedes who are listening, they're very

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly.

Anna Cei:

Is that the kind of breakfast you have in front of

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. I think that's the word. Which

Anna Cei:

And so now, when we know a little bit about you a

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it's close.

Anna Cei:

How far is it to the water?

Fredric Mourath:

I know, there's like 10 minutes to a nearby town

Anna Cei:

We are all curious now to know. What did you pick? How

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. Yeah, that's ...That was a tough

Anna Cei:

I think that's about Yeah, it makes very much sense. journey, and then we'll end up where you are now, I guess, on

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Well, it's a it's a long

Anna Cei:

Yeah.

Fredric Mourath:

But yeah, you know, it's, I guess, it's the decided pretty early on that I wanted to be like an actor, point, I'm not sure what was more important if it was the

Anna Cei:

So there was kind of some kind of stage narcissism

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I think so. I mean, I was I was I was

Anna Cei:

So you had stage fright when you were young?

Fredric Mourath:

No, not not straight up like stage fright, wanted to do it for some reason. So that was weird, but I think songwriting course, basically, so I started studying there, and

Anna Cei:

Did you choose like a main interest in this education?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I mean, interest. I'm not I mean, we all

Anna Cei:

Ah Okay, so it wasn't like if you're a guitarist,

Fredric Mourath:

exactly. Not for not for songwriting. I think

Anna Cei:

I said, That's what I meant the path was called

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And we studied

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm.

Fredric Mourath:

And then we had a class in terms of a group of

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm.

Fredric Mourath:

I went there for a year. And it was, it was I didn't, because I didn't have fun, because I did, but it just pretty tough, you know, so I was just kind of looking for

Anna Cei:

Something that mattered to you.

Fredric Mourath:

Exactly. Something that mattered to me. And and that's when I came up with the now not so I know not

Anna Cei:

But you thought so then.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. I thought that was a good idea

Anna Cei:

Was it, because it felt it was important to defend

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, no, I

Anna Cei:

What made you choose that?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I think the reason was just I was just

Anna Cei:

And you thought that military service would help you

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I thought it was just would just be

Anna Cei:

Mmm, Ah

Fredric Mourath:

That was basically basically it.

Anna Cei:

That sounds good.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it does. So I trained like hell for that

Anna Cei:

So you, you wanted to do something that you felt

Fredric Mourath:

I think it was a little bit of both, mostly it's cool, then I guess that's ...that works. So but during wasn't right for me, it was just way too tough.

Anna Cei:

So in the millitary service, you could apply for

Fredric Mourath:

Exactly. So for the first I applied for like this, what's called a

Anna Cei:

It's army, right? So it's not Navy, and it's not air,

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it was a lot of like, behind enemy lines.

Anna Cei:

Maybe you could have combined the two, like, it

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I've actually seen that. But when I did, I realized it was the toughest thing ever. And I I couldn't really apply for anything. And I just wanted to

Anna Cei:

Ah..

Fredric Mourath:

and during that time, and like I had been know, I met a lot of great people. And I was in a

Anna Cei:

It kind of stabilized a little bit?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. And I wasn't so sad anymore. you really allow myself to reflect on it. But in reality, what I

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm.

Fredric Mourath:

And I'd also reflected a lot on islands and like, I can't kill people, like I can't learn about this stuff.

Anna Cei:

So that was something else that really matter to you,

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah,

Anna Cei:

even in a case of war.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it was really weird in that sense, is something I can't do anymore. And while I was there, for the

Anna Cei:

As a military police, you didn't feel that was too

Fredric Mourath:

No there was much creativity there.

Anna Cei:

There's like this stereotype like, you know,

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. And, you know, I guess it think it's much fun for anyone. And that certainly wasn't the

Anna Cei:

But really what happened was that you said here

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

And was there a conflict then? So did you feel

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I.. I did feel right. Actually, I didn't feel much conflict, conflict, because I realized that immediately the problem like, how did I get here and like, eventually, it was a

Anna Cei:

So you did that when you were in the middle of it.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah,

Anna Cei:

so you opted out?

Fredric Mourath:

Exactly. But not not in the middle of it.

Anna Cei:

Oh in the beginning. Okay.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. And it was just such a huge like, don't

Anna Cei:

why would you feel embarrassed? I mean, I can, I but you wouldn't know until you're really there. So it can't

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

Are you embarrassed in front of yourself? What's it

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I think it was kind of it was partly in reality, I probably did realize it earlier, I just get that feeling you still get the feeling like you've let

Anna Cei:

And I guess also like teammates, not just like anybody

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah exactly. Especially them. So yeah, long much anymore about whether I'm like, quote unquote, successful,

Anna Cei:

I want to make stuff I don't want to kill people.

Fredric Mourath:

So yeah, I mean, yeah, I just figured that

Anna Cei:

But I mean, it's kind of cool, because there's also

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, yeah.

Anna Cei:

To create stuff, or what do you? How would you

Fredric Mourath:

What matters most to me is creating stuff

Anna Cei:

And now we know why. Because you tried to do

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, exactly. Kind of like when you feel like

Anna Cei:

How do you see this play out? Do you think this is

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah I mean, are you talking about the whole moral consciousness

Anna Cei:

No, No I'm not really talking... I'm just thinking This creative path.

Fredric Mourath:

I'm trying to keep an open mind, I guess, and don't generally in Sweden get forced to do stuff you don't obviously, I've been doing music for a long time. But I've always

Anna Cei:

that sounds super interesting in my world.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

Then you have to be pretty skilled with a computer

Fredric Mourath:

Exactly and that's been the biggest

Anna Cei:

Oh, so you don't have a lot of programming kind of

Fredric Mourath:

No, I don't. But I've been learning a lot

Anna Cei:

22 years old and you're a man living in Sweden

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, like, I mean, I used to see definitely that I'm pretty, I'm pretty good at home. Here in Sweden actually

Anna Cei:

The music we heard here now you're doing solo

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, definitely. Like I said, I'm

Anna Cei:

this kind of music. I love your music, by the way, and

Fredric Mourath:

thank you.

Anna Cei:

First of all, I'm very picky and it's not the kind of

Fredric Mourath:

Thanks.

Anna Cei:

And I'm just thinking when you said that you wanted to

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I mean, yeah, it really is. But you how to scream as well, which is going okay. *laughing*

Anna Cei:

So if there's any other out there, and the people

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I do.

Anna Cei:

guitar and vocals. And how about any other? No, that's

Fredric Mourath:

I mean, I mean, I have a.. *laughing*

Anna Cei:

Is that it? Is that all? *laughing*

Fredric Mourath:

no, but I have a working knowledge of like

Anna Cei:

That's great.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. Thanks.

Anna Cei:

Well, I think this was a great time with you. And I'm

Fredric Mourath:

*laughing* It's a bit of a leap, but..*laughing*

Anna Cei:

Well, I mean, you tried the opposite to be in a

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Anna Cei:

I know that military usually hopefully don't have to

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, It's just some kind of a principle. I just, this isn't

Anna Cei:

Mm hmm. Well, thank you so much.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah.

Anna Cei:

Is there anything else you want to say to the audience? find you on other places as well?

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, I mean, right now, my music is on all

Anna Cei:

wherever you will find music you will find Fredric too

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah. Exactly!Yeah, *laughing*

Anna Cei:

sounds good. Well, it's getting close to one

Fredric Mourath:

Oh,

Anna Cei:

so and you have a early Sunday morning.

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah, it's 7:45am here.

Anna Cei:

So I wish you a wonderful lovely sunny Sunday.

Fredric Mourath:

Thank you.

Anna Cei:

Well, thank you so much. Yeah,

Fredric Mourath:

Yeah thank you so much and good night.

Anna Cei:

Good night.
